In the summer of 1999, Wilson Philips singer, Carnie Wilson,
chose Dr. Alan Wittgrove as her surgeon. Carnie has become
an ambassador for bariatric surgery, sharing her story throughout
her post operative journey. Starting with her surgery being
broadcast live on the internet. Carnie knew many others
suffered from the same disease, morbid obesity and wanted
to share and educate others on surgical option.
Carnie participates in our program, as a patient advocate
by attending some of our support group meetings and she
can be seen in our office periodically visiting with our
pre and post operative patients.
It takes a courageous person to open her heart and let
us in on the pain and suffering endured by an obese person
in this weight-obsessed culture. Yet Carnie Wilson, singer
with the successful musical group Wilson Phillips, host
of her own daytime TV talk show, and daughter of legendary
Beach Boy Brian Wilson, does just that. She takes us on
a journey through her thoughts and feelings as she ventures
through the difficult decision to undergo surgery. She continues
her inspirational story as she guides us through the surgical
procedure, her recovery and on to new dimensions of health
and happiness in her life.
